Key People

Career Advancement

The term "Key Person" is as much a part of the history of Therapeutic Associates as its roots that date back to the beginning of private practice. Therapeutic Associates began from the visionary leadership of pioneers in private practice physical therapy. These pioneers wanted to elevate the profession and ensure its enduring strength through the development of new therapists who value clinical expertise and who embrace the entrepreneurial spirit of governing one's own destiny. Therapeutic Associates has evolved and expanded through the creation of a professional growth ladder that has as one of its cornerstones the concept of a Key Person. The position of Key Person is an integral step in becoming a Therapeutic Associates shareholder.

Becoming a shareholder in Therapeutic Associates allows you to become part of a strong, independent practice of therapists that provides the environment for a rich clinical career, for financial rewards and for the satisfaction of mentoring those that follow you in the pursuit of returning patients to their best quality of life.

What is a Key Person?

A Key Person is a licensed therapist who is a director of a Therapeutic Associates' clinical practice. A Key Person delivers care and manages the day to day business and clinical operations of the practice location. Therapeutic Associates supports its Key People with a managerial team of experienced physical therapists who are shareholders or administrative personnel of the company.

Who Can Become a Key Person?

Traditionally a Key Person has been a Therapeutic Associates staff therapist who has demonstrated clinical abilities and management potential. Qualities of potential Key People include leadership capabilities, a strong work ethic, and a keen interest in ongoing clinical skill development and in professional growth. Typically Key People show a proven ability to market their professional skills and the clinical programs of their facility and staff.

Aside from the more traditional development of Key People from within the company, Therapeutic Associates has also found highly qualified therapists from outside our organization that demonstrate the same skills and potential that have made them worthy of growing with us in new practice settings.

How Can I Become a Key Person?

Therapeutic Associates shareholders are constantly in search of qualified therapists who share our values and who demonstrate the qualities necessary to become a successful Key Person. Once a potential expansion opportunity has been identified, a review and selection process is initiated to place the right therapist in the new site as the director. A list of potential Key People is maintained within the company and is periodically updated and reviewed so the company may act quickly and efficiently when a new opportunity has been identified.

Potential Key People, those that are on the list and those that wish to be added, are required to attend and complete a series of management training seminars that include: time management, human resources, marketing, and finance. A special seminar is also convened to apprise potential Key People of the responsibilities of being a Key Person and what they might expect in becoming a shareholder in Therapeutic Associates.

What Responsibilities Do Key People Have?

Ultimately Key People must create a profitable practice within Therapeutic Associates by managing all aspects of clinical care delivery, revenues, and expenses. This includes making all staffing decisions, such as hiring, evaluating, and, when necessary, promoting or dismissing clinical or office support personnel. The Key Person makes daily operational decisions and performs marketing activities to generate the practice's referrals and to produce a high quality of cost effective care. In short, a Key Person must be responsible for all aspects of the practice that any sole owner of an independent therapy clinic would be responsible for, with the exception of the financial risk or debt incurred in starting a new practice.

How Long Could I Expect to be a Key Person Before I am Given the Opportunity to Become a Shareholder?

The time that it takes for a Key Person to be offered a position as a shareholder in Therapeutic Associates is strictly determined by the success their practice experiences. Key persons have achieved the opportunity to become a shareholder in as little as three years, but most Key Persons have averaged between 5-7 years to earn a shareholder opportunity.

What is a Shareholder in Therapeutic Associates?

A Therapeutic Associates shareholder has ownership in the overall company. A Therapeutic Associates shareholder participates in the financial risk and rewards of the company as it expands through new clinical sites. Therapeutic Associates shareholders also participate in a retirement program and are awarded a higher percentage of profits from their own practice.

Shareholders in Therapeutic Associates also retain voting privileges that enable them to actively participate in the leadership and governance of the company. Voting rights extend to a variety of different issues including selecting the company's board of directors. Therapeutic Associates shareholders are also eligible to be nominated and to run for open positions on the board. They may also become part of a management team for the development of new practices. Shareholders are expected to be actively involved in committee tasks.
